Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. The summary of the whole law of God: Love God and love your neighbor.
For those outside of Christ, the commands condemn. If you violate one point you are guilty of all (James 2:10; Romans 3:23).
For those in Christ, the obligation was met by His perfect obedience in our place (Romans 5) .
Never has so much love been poured out to a people than is seen in the God of Heaven, coming down, to take the form of a servant, endure every temptation known to man, perfectly submitting to the will of the Father, to rescue and redeem us to God. What wondrous love, O my soul!
Doesn't this love motivate you to obedience? Jesus said, If you love me, keep my commandments (John 14:15). Love God. Love your neighbor.
